Studebaker initially planned to cancel the Hawk for 1959 due to poor sales in 1958. Dealers objected, however, and a compromise was reached where only the coupe-bodied Silver Hawk returned. The ’59 Silver Hawk was only available with a 170 cubic-inch six or 259 cubic-inch V8.
